Communication is a fundamental part of how we connect, express ourselves, and engage with the world. At Accelerate Abilities, our Speech Pathologists are dedicated to supporting participants who face challenges with communication, language, social interaction, and eating.
Our compassionate team works collaboratively with individuals, their families, and support networks to understand their unique goals. We aim to empower each person by developing practical skills and strategies that enhance their ability to communicate confidently, build social connections, and participate fully in daily life.

Pragmatic Language Assessments
These assessments are often requested by paediatricians when completing assessments for suspected Autism Spectrum Disorder, but can be completed for therapeutic and goal setting purposes as well. We work closely with the client and caregiver to investigate social interaction/communication difficulties that might impact their daily lives.

Speech and Language Assessments
A language assessment by a speech therapist is a detailed evaluation of a person’s ability to understand and use language, including areas such as, following directions, repeating sentences verbatim, understanding stories and conversations, and using appropriate vocabulary and grammar. A speech assessment looks at the clarity of the client's speech sound production and the overall intelligibility of their verbal speech. These help identify speech/language delays or disorders and guide treatment planning.

Assistive Technology Trials
An AAC trial (Augmentative and Alternative Communication trial) is a structured process used to evaluate whether a person with limited verbal speech can benefit from using AAC tools to support their communication. AAC includes anything from simple picture boards to high-tech speech-generating devices.

Parent Training Programs
Hanen More Than Words - this is a parent training program led by a qualified Speech Pathologist designed to help parents of young children (usually under age 5) with autism or social communication difficulties. The purpose is to teach parents practical strategies to support their child’s communication, social skills, and play in everyday routines and interactions. This can be delivered in a small group setting or 1:1 with a trained Speech Pathologist.

Feeding Therapy
Feeding therapy for fussy eating is a type of therapy that helps children who are extremely selective or have difficulty eating a variety of foods. This type of therapy can help children become more comfortable with trying new foods, improve mealtime behaviours, and develop healthy eating habits through play and food exploration in a low stress and fun environment. This therapy can be completed 1:1 with a trained therapist, or in a small group setting if applicable.
