Occupational

Therapy

Occupational Therapists (OTs) work with people to support their participation in everyday activities. This can range from self-care activities, domestic tasks, leisure and play, school or work and life skills such as accessing the community and social skills.

We work closely with individuals and their support network at home, school or in the community to identify their goals and put together a plan to help enhance their independence in activities that are important to them.

This can be done by modifying the environment, providing adaptive equipment as well as providing rehabilitation and/or retraining.

Assesses a participant's functional performance in daily activity both at home and the community.

It aims to holistically consider the comprehensive needs and goals of the client and identify necessary support to enable the client to participate in daily living activities, ensuring they have the right level of support and funding to achieve their goals.

Home Safety Assessments Sunshine Coast

If you are returning home from the hospital or have recently had changes to how you are managing living independently at home, a home safety assessment can help. This assessment can help to identify the areas that are presenting challenges and make recommendations to improve home safety, functionality and independence.

This may include recommending equipment, home modifications or providing education regarding different ways of performing a task.

Sensory Profiles

Difficulties with Sensory Integration can occur when messages from one or several sensory systems are not being processed effectively, resulting in a person being over or under-sensitive to particular sensations.

Sensory profile assessments evaluate an individual's sensory processing patterns in the context of everyday life, providing a unique way to determine how sensory processing may be contributing to or interfering with participation in everyday tasks.

school/preschool based assessments

Difficulties with school-based learning and preparation for school require support from an early age to establish the necessary building blocks for future success.

School / Preschool-based assessments evaluate a child's fine motor, gross motor, cognitive, and motor skills to support them with learning in the classroom environment and engagement in schooling.

Life Skill Assessments

Difficulties with activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs) are very common among individuals of all ages.

Areas such as toileting, dressing, hygiene/grooming, feeding, sleep, housework, money management, shopping, meal preparation, personal safety, travelling and organisational tasks are assessed through life skill assessments and help to identify which areas require further support through therapy.

Assistive technology assessments and trials

We apply our specialised knowledge to recommend suitable equipment which enhances independence and helps to make daily tasks easier. We work closely with the client to identify the most suitable option and provide clinical evidence to assist the participant to access funding.

Assistive technology can range from small aids to help with dressing, through to more complex and specialist technology such as powered wheelchairs.

These assessments are often requested by paediatricians when completing assessments for suspected Autism Spectrum Disorder, but can be completed for therapeutic and goal setting purposes as well. We work closely with the client and caregiver to investigate social interaction/communication difficulties that might impact their daily lives.

A language assessment by a speech therapist is a detailed evaluation of a person’s ability to understand and use language, including areas such as, following directions, repeating sentences verbatim, understanding stories and conversations, and using appropriate vocabulary and grammar. A speech assessment looks at the clarity of the client's speech sound production and the overall intelligibility of their verbal speech. These help identify speech/language delays or disorders and guide treatment planning.

An AAC trial (Augmentative and Alternative Communication trial) is a structured process used to evaluate whether a person with limited verbal speech can benefit from using AAC tools to support their communication. AAC includes anything from simple picture boards to high-tech speech-generating devices.
    school/preschool based assessments
Hanen More Than Words - this is a parent training program led by a qualified Speech Pathologist designed to help parents of young children (usually under age 5) with autism or social communication difficulties. The purpose is to teach parents practical strategies to support their child’s communication, social skills, and play in everyday routines and interactions. This can be delivered in a small group setting or 1:1 with a trained Speech Pathologist.
    Sensory Profiles
Feeding therapy for fussy eating is a type of therapy that helps children who are extremely selective or have difficulty eating a variety of foods. This type of therapy can help children become more comfortable with trying new foods, improve mealtime behaviours, and develop healthy eating habits through play and food exploration in a low stress and fun environment. This therapy can be completed 1:1 with a trained therapist, or in a small group setting if applicable.
